Trench Warfare, WWI

This image will come custom framed with a gold plaque. Plaque will read:

World War I: Death in the Trenches

The intensity of World War I trench warfare meant about 56% of the fighting soldiers were killed or wounded. In addition, men who had to endure prolonged bombardment would often suffer debilitating shell shock, a condition not well understood at the time. Sanitary conditions were horrendous, and common infections included dysentery, typhus, cholera, parasites and fungal conditions such as trench mouth and trench foot. Many soldiers froze to death. Today, on the Western Front, bodies continue to be found in ploughed fields and building foundations.
