Harlem Hellfighters

The Harlem Hellfighters were an African-American infantry unit in WWI who spent more time in continuous combat than any other American unit, with 191 days in the front-line trenches. They also suffered more casualties than any other American regiment, more than 1400.  Many white US soldiers refused to serve with the Black soldiers, so the Hellfighters instead fought with the French Army.
