Barry Kite "Postmodern Motel"

BARRY KITE

Postmodern Motel

Kite is a Bay Area artist whose style of social and political parody deconstructs, recomposes and repositions historical and contemporary imagery to create intriguing stories.

A little art literacy is helpful when viewing Kite’s art, as many implied narratives draw on historic reactions and interpretations of artists and works from their own era.  Being aware of the fact that an artist went blind or crazy or bankrupt (you know who you are), or that a work was once critically excoriated, opens the door to greater understanding the provocation and humor.  Kite’s “surreal poetry” has won him several art competition awards and placed his work in numerous private and corporate collections.
