The 2019 Heritage Vines Zinfandel is delicious and wonderfully balanced. This vintage presents alluring aromatics of boysenberry, black cherry and raspberry with nuances of toasty cedar, warm spices and cocoa powder. On the palate, brambly flavors of dark berries come forward. The wine is complex, with bright acidity complimented by deeper notes of mocha, white pepper and wild sage brush. The tannins are silky and smooth to lend a round, rich mouthfeel. From start to finish, this remarkable wine offers refreshing acidity paired with excellent structure.
Aged 15 months in American, Hungarian and French oak; 23% new oak. 12-14 days in fermenters at 82-88 degrees Fahrenheit; pumped over twice daily.
92pts Jeb Dunnuck "Showed beautifully, with a pure, up-front, silky and textured style as well as classic plum and berry fruits, notes of incense, pepper, and orange blossom, supple tannins, and a great finish. Drink this charming, pleasure-bent beauty over the coming 5-7 years."
92pts Wine Enthusiast "Offering tremendous value for the quality, this wine is blended with 19% Petite Syrah. Tart, tangy red fruit, from plum to cherry, layers over undertones of baking spice, cigar box and crushed herb. It's a full-bodied and richly textured red."
91pts Wine Spectator "A briar old-school Zin, with lively blackberry, licorice and toasty underbrush flavors that zip along toward the snappy finish. Drink now through 2029."
Varietal Composition: 81% Zinfandel, 19% Petite Sirah
Dry Creek Vineyard was established in 1972 and is Dry Creek Valley's flagship winery located in the heart of Sonoma County, California. As the region's first new winery following Prohibition, founder David Stare paved the way for a viticultural rebirth in this vibrant wine growing appellation. Among other industry benchmarks, Dry Creek Vineyard is recognized as the first winery to plant Sauvignon Blanc in the Dry Creek Valley, and was also the first to use the term "Meritage" with the 1985 vintage.
Dave's daughter, Kim Stare Wallace, now serves as President overseeing a successful family winemaking and grape growing business that includes 185 acres of sustainably farmed vineyards. Dry Creek Vineyard is firmly committed to a "No Compromises" philosophy, producing appellation-focused, terroir-driven, varietal-defining wines, including Heritage Vines Zinfandel, which was selected as a Wine Spectator "Top 100" Wine of 2019. Named one of the Top 100 wineries of 2015 by Wine & Spirits Magazine and a Top 10 Tasting Room by USA TODAY, the winery is also 100% Certified Sustainable. Dry Creek Vineyard proudly produces delicious Dry Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Heritage blends as well as a portfolio of single vineyard selections.
