Jokić started playing basketball in his hometown of Sombor, Serbia. In 2012, he joined the Serbian professional basketball club Mega Basket, which competes in the Basketball League of Serbia. Jokić quickly made an impact and showcased his potential as a skilled big man.
In the 2014 NBA Draft, Jokić was selected by the Denver Nuggets with the 41st overall pick in the second round. He chose to stay in Europe for another year to continue developing his game. However, in 2015, he signed with the Nuggets and made his NBA debut in the same year.
He earned consecutive NBA All-Star selections in the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 seasons. He further elevated his game in the 2020-2021 season, where he averaged career-highs of 26.4 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game, solidifying himself as a triple-double threat. Jokić's exceptional play led to him being awarded the NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) for two straight season (2021 & 2022), becoming the first center to win the award in over 20 years.
Jokić has also made an impact in the NBA playoffs. In the 2018-2019 season, he led the Nuggets to the Western Conference Semifinals, and in the 2020-2021 season, he guided the team to the Western Conference Finals. This year, 2022-2023, he and the Denver Nuggets won the NBA Championship and was elected as the NBA Finals MVP. His leadership, scoring ability, and playmaking skills have made him a crucial asset in the Nuggets' championship run.
