Sami Zilkah Original "Beloved Jerusalem"

SAMI ZILKAH (b. 1936)

Beloved Jerusalem

Sami Zilkah was born in Baghdad in 1936 and immigrated to Israel in 1951. He graduated from the Tel Aviv College of Art in 1970. In the early years, Zilkah was a goldsmith, and crafted jewelry for Elizabeth Taylor, Peter Ustinov and many others. Zilkah is also an accomplished and celebrated painter.

For the last 15 years, he has worked in his own independent way to develop a mixed media technique that he founded and is unique to his art. He starts by taking cardboard and fabric, mixing them in a liquid and creating a mold. He then etches the image he wants to create into the mold and glues it to a canvas board. He lets it dry and then etches the image more. He then paints 3 layers of oil, not acrylic, because _oil painting is from the beginning of time”. Each work can take from 5 to 15 days to complete. His work has been studied all over the world and featured in several museums and only exclusive galleries in Israel.
